What a way to Expand your thoughts in Film!

On the short film we watched the first day of class titled “Stunned Man, ” I was able to relate myself to the character since I think that is how most of us live our lives, in straight chaos, faster than a speed of light, everything around us goes and moves so fast that we do not even realize that we are alive, until we actually become aware of the fact that we are our own gods.

Expanded Cinema – Journal 1

The film shows a character who walks into his apartment and is getting ready to do a series of tasks that even “me” or others do on a regular basis, like wash the dishes, read, take a shower, eat, etc. What attracted me the most about this mind-blowing short film was the dual version side by side of each other, showing the character performing his actions either behind one another one or one step ahead.

My mind was working on both sides of the screens trying to absorb as much when it came to his actions and all the details that were taking place inside the apartment. At one point he starts destroying the walls and then fixing things up. I mean, this just shows how sometimes humans we just act like animals and behave like normals at the sane time.

I have never seen a film that showed the dual capture of the movie in two different shots showing the character and his irrational behavior.

To point out the first reading of the book:

“THE AUDIENCE AND THE MYTH OF ENTERTAINMENT, ” I completely agree with the author’s point of view, I am aware that most people in the planet are not awake to a reality that is manifesting in from of their eyes. I manage a website on my time off and I felt for many years that my goal in life is to wake people up. I do this though my designs and posts on the blog. i entertain people in the world wide web while I also create an impact on a subject that may be a touchy one or that people refuse to discuss.

All I can say is: “WOW.”  What an amazing night I had on Saturday, August 16th at Stereo After-hours under the beat of DJ Mark Anthony.

You know it was my first time back in three long years. I used to go there almost every weekend after a long night of partying with friends in the clubs in downtown Montreal. Everyone in the city knows Stereo somehow, they either heard about it or have attended it. The reason why I stopped going, well as you all know by now I was away from the club scene for a while due to school, managing the website and my freelancing.

Stereo After-hours
Stereo After-hours

I was very surprised to see a bunch of old friends from back in the day who are still attending this massive rave and of course new people I was introduced too as well. Without a doubt the scene has changed a lot, I mean the crowd is still mixed and that is the main reason why people love Stereo so much. (wouldn’t you agree ?)

DJ Mark Anthony was great, he knew exactly what the crowd wanted and kept us going until Sunday around 10 am, spinning mad house and dance music. True, the rave scene at Stereo has changed a lot since the last time I went.

(That was back in 2012 for DJ Sasha) When I say “changed,” I mean there is a lot of new young kids on “Molly” (Previously known as Ecstasy back in the late 90’s) pretending to rave, but honestly they don’t have clue what they are doing, it’s like they are either to fucked up on “MDMA” to actually function and dance or they have no idea how to move their body to the beat of the music. There is a less connection within the community, it’s about the rave scene and being open to many factors and I found some people were in a different context. (Sorry, I had to say that)

Getting ready to Rave at Stereo
Getting ready to Rave at Stereo

Hours away from the great night @ Stereo.

As you can see I am on a groovy vibe and ready to dance all night!

Before Stereo we actually walked into Unity, they also had plenty of good dance music and great local DJ’S.

Once again the scene was completely different, but that is how it is with the club scene, it changes every year and imagine I was away for three years so it was a complete shocker.

I also want to take the time to thank all the people that came up to me that night to say “hi” and started a simple conversation, man I met people from Toronto, Vancouver and overseas and obviously I can’t forget the people who cranked up their perfect moves while we were all raving on the dance floor. Once again thank you for the amazing vibes you all had all night long!

The Next Level!
The Next Level!

For those of you who are reading this post and do not know what Stereo is all about, here is a bit of history:

“Stereo was established in 1998 and is situated in the heart of Montreal, actually located in the Gay Village. It’s purpose is pure dance floor ecstasy. Aural pleasure is what Stereo is all about. The music; Not the commercial radio stuff but the real underground, forward thinking genres. Their goal has always been to throw the best parties through carefully chosen artists, the best in visual presentations and lighting, in a room that creates such a thick energy you can almost cut through it with a knife. This is Stereo.”

8 A.M and still Rolling!
8 A.M and still Rolling!

I’m so hooked on it right now, that I can’t wait to go back, I will be hitting the dance floor once again on September 5th for Danny Tenaglia.

I’m sure I’m gonna have a blast once again. I already bought my ticket and I’m ready to get back on the floor and improve my moves.

I am positive I will see a lot of people I met last time and many new ones. It happens every time I go to a Rave. That “It” factor no one can deny is there somehow.

This event will be an eye opener for the new rave scene that is emerging in Montreal all over again.

I have to say the security was tougher than ever, they threw away my pack of gum and searched my wallet like I was an actual Colombian carrying drugs over the border. The girl was “nuts” she made me empty all my pockets and was touching me all over the place, I actually felt violated… lol.. not really. I know it’s part of her job, but come on it’s a Rave what do you expect?

On that note, I hope to see you guys there soon!

Raving and Rolling,

Great Vibe - Stereo After-hours
Great Vibe – Stereo After-hoursPS:

“I have a feeling the upcoming event @ Stereo will have a huge and meaningful impact in my life! I can just feel it now, it’s like destiny brought me to it out of the blue and I have waited three years to stand face to face to what I like to call: “C@@@H.”

Bafta - 2015
Bafta – 2015

The 68th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, were held on  February 8th, 2015 at the Royal Opera House in London. Honouring the best British and international contributions in film and television for 2014.

I watch the Bafta’s every single year.It takes my mind aside from all the different award shows of the season. I mean, don’t get me wrong I love the Golden globes, The Grammys and the Oscars; however there is something special about the Bafta Awards… Mmmmmhhh, what could that be?
Oh yeah… They are British.
(I just had to say that, sorry)

I have always had a huge passion for Film and T.V. I respect what actors and directors do. I love the fact that one single script that comes out of someone’s mind, written on paper in a basement can become a successful movie that will make audiences across the globe cry, laugh, think and feel all kinds of emotions.

(Wouldn’t you agree?)

I grew up going to the movies and I developed an incredible pleasure, mature thinking and an open mind thanks to this medium. Now that I will be attending Mel Hoppenheim’s School of cinema at Concordia University with a major in Film Studies; I am super thrill and excited to actually dive in to the field and get to learn so much more that one can only acquired while going and practicing the subject with professors and other students within the field.

I see myself one day becoming a part of the medium, either on T.V or Film, I know I will be there. The reason why I say this is because “I am tough, ambitious and determined to get what I want at no cost.” I already see myself judging and rating a Movie wile working for a studio or even hosting a show, who knows the possibilities in the field are endless.

Enough about me bragging about my future. Let’s get back to the Bafta’s.

It was such a great joy to see Patricia Arquette take the Bafta for Best Supporting Actress in “Boyhood” (What a great film, honestly), Julianne Moore finally won a big award in a huge category, like finally, seriously, finally she took home the Bafta for
Best Actress in a Leading Role for “Still Alice,” sadly Michael Keaton did not win as everyone though he was going. The Bafta for Best A actor in a Leading Role went to Eddie Redmayne for “The Theory of Everything.” (I will never forget this performance)

Without a doubt, the Academy of Arts and Science in Los Angeles, also known and refer to as the “Oscars” have always had a fascination and huge intrigue towards gay cinema.

Neil Patrick Harris Hosted the Academy Awards in 2015
Neil Patrick Harris Hosted the Academy Awards in 2015

I mean let’s face it, not only they award gay movies but they also nominate and give the prestigious statue to roles that involved gay characters. Examples of previous nominated films and winners are: “Boys Don’t Cry”, Dallas Buyer’s Club”, “TransAmerica”, “The Kids are All Right”, “Milk”, “Brokeback Mountain” and many more.
(I am not saying the actors who played these characters are gay in real life, although it s Hollywood after all and everything goes down)

That been said, if we go back and take a look at the people who already hosted the Academy Awards, well we have daytime Gay Icon and T.V star Ellen Degeneres, who hosted the Awards in 2014 and was hilarious, I mean she literally killed the show. I had so much fun watching her, I laughed out loud several times. On the other hand for the 2015 Academy Awards we had the pleasure to see, Neil Patrick Harris hosting the show. True he was not as good as Ellen, but he did the job.

Sean Penn wins Best Actor for “Milk”

Everyone that loves film, the way I do, will be open too see and think critically about these type of films. Homophobia is still out there in third world countries and even in first world countries like Canada and the United States, but when we go to the movies we enter the filmmakers mind and imagination and we are transported into a differnet world. I am sure there is plenty of people who may feel upset and may disapprove gay cinema. I can only say that, well people need to become more open minded now days.

(I mean, it is the 21st century, for god sakes)

Hillary Swank wins Best Actress for “Boys Don’t Cry”

Are you surprised? You honestly should not be. I think and know for sure that gay cinema has come to a point in culture that tells us, this is no longer a tabu; even though it is a touchy subject for half of the population worldwide. I am the first to say and I quote : “I Love Gay Movies”… hahahahaha… I really do.

Jared Leto wins Best Supporting Actor for “Dallas Buyer’s Club”

The explosion of Gay cinema definately took place back in the early 90’s, but of course we have encounter gay films before this decade. Gay films were recognized as much as now by the Academy back then. I wonder why?, when half of the members of the Academy are just plain G’s.

One of the reasons why I love to watch music videos is because the art of the performer will be created in that video. It is amazing to create and deliver art to the public, that way.

When I go back in time, I do remember I grew up with the music channel, MTV. yeah, the one and only MTV.

MTV - Music Television
MTV – Music Television

aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, yup!, those were the days… good old episodes of the real world, Singled out and TRL… if you have no idea what I am referring to, that was the content featured back in the 90’s on MTV.. Not even, very early 90s. At the same time and even before, amazing music videos were broadcasted through the station from the dawn of 1983, when MTV was born as a Music Station.

So, it is my pleasure to announce my own countdown of the 10 most shocking Music Videos of all time, Felsite style!!!

George Michael – Outside

Lady Gaga – Born This Way

Sinead O’Connor – Nothing Compares 2 You

Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People

Michael Jackson – Thriller

Madonna – Like a Prayer

TLC – Waterfalls

Pink Floyd – Another Brick In The Wall

Madonna – Justify My Love

Madonna – Erotica – Uncensored Version

Enjoy the sex book, like you have never seen it before

Any emotions running through your mind? I bet you do have plenty?
Feelings of euphoria, you may be scared or just saying out loud the so famous wtf!!!

I do know exactly what you are thinking. I mean, when these videos came out,
(some of them in the late 80’s) well, let’s face it… they pretty much shocked the world and some of the were banned from t.v.
(Mainly in madonna’s case)

At the same time they opened and touch tabu-subjects that modern America and the world was perhaps not ready to open up. The artists featured in the videos pushed the envelope to creative music while still confronting serious matters the world was facing and is still facing now days.

your opinion and feedback is really up to you!

Feel free to key in your thoughts and opinions, it does not matter if they are offensive or more of an eye opener. It’s all good!

blog you next time…

Another year goes by and so The Golden Globe Awards come quicker than expected. This prestigious award show is always the first one of the year and it normally indicates and lets award junkies like me know, who will be a great contender to take home the Oscar.

Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler - 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards
Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler – 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, hosted the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards once again. This dynamic duo only gets better throughout the years. I do think they were better last year, however I love to see them hosting award shows. They tryly crack me up with their jokes and sarcasm.

Without a doubt, it was an amazing comeback for Michael Keaton. I mean do you remember the original Batman back in the 90’s? How can we forget this character. I grew up with him and all the other actors who were a part of the Batman movies directed by Tim Burton. (Jack Nicholson. Kim Basinger, Michelle Pheiffer, Danny Devito)

(Well, there was only two of them directed by Tim Burton. But those two were the best.. the rest sucked.)

It was a big night for “Birdman,” “Boyhood,” and “Transparent” at the 2015 Golden Globes.

The four biggest acting categories for motion pictures went to Michael Keaton (“Birdman”), Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”), Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”) and Patricia Arquette (“Boyhood”).

“The Grand Budapest Hotel” took home top honors for best comedy and “Boyhood” won best drama.

Amy Adams, Michael Keaton and Julianne Moore are honored with the Golden Globe

Madonna’s new video: “Living for Love” is already going viral on YouTube and climbing the top of the music charts once again.

I love the song, it has a different beat and is good to see her back with a different image. “Living for love” is the first single to be released from her upcoming 13th studio album, Rebel Heart.

I am glad to see her dancing and moving like a machine in this video; the moves are totally cool and it reminds me of a: “Papa don’t preach” with a mix of “Confessions on a Dance floor.”

She is also getting a lot of criticism due to the creation of the video and the use of satanic Illuminati symbols. But, hey… listen if it works for her or someone else why not do it? I see nothing wrong with it. Becoming powerful and having ambitious is a quality many artists have. They did not get there just because… (Trust me, I should know)

The Queen of Pop will also be performing her new single at the 2015 Grammy Awards on Sunday February the 8th.

It has been said it will be an unforgettable performance. Let’s not forget she made history performing at the 2014 Grammy Awards with Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Queen Latifah while 34 couples (straight and gay) got married at the Staples Center.

On that note, here is Madonna’s new music video, enjoy!

Great perspective and choreography on her video. MTV, VH1 and Billboard are saying this is one of the best videos of this decade.

Rebel Heart is the upcoming thirteenth studio album by Madonna. It is scheduled to be released on March 10, 2015 by Interscope Records.

Rebel Heart is way, way different from Madonna’s releases in the last decade, the album has a combination of different influences and styles that convey an “eclectic record” merging an array of musical genres like ’90s house to trap, to reggae to usage of acoustic guitars. It also features collaborations with Avicii, Pharrel Williams, Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj.

The album is without a doubt progressive in its sound.

Madonna - Unapologetic Bitch
Madonna – Unapologetic Bitch

I already listened to a few of the songs that were released this past December 20th on iTunes. A total of 6 songs were released and she immediately reached No 1 in the iTunes chart in 36 countries. I personally like what she has come up with. She is so unique when it comes to pop music and I can not wait for the full release of the album next March, 2015.

The list of tracks released and their respective collaborations is the following:

  • Living For Love – Madonna Ciccone, Thomas Wesley Pentz, Uzo Emenike, Annie Brewster, Alicia Keys, Maureen McDonald, Ariel Rechtstaid, Toby Gad, Nick Rowe
  • Devil Pray – Madonna Ciccone, Dacoury Natche, Blood Diamonds
  • Ghosttown – Madonna Ciccone, Mathieu Jomphe
  • Unapologetic Bitch – Madonna Ciccone, Thomas Wesley Pentz, Sophie
  • Illuminati – Madonna Ciccone, Kanye West
  • Bitch I’m Madonna (feat. Nicki Minaj) – Madonna Ciccone, Thomas Wesley Pentz, Sophie, Onika Maraj

According to Billboard, this is Madonna’s most amibitious project in over a decade. The first single is the track Living for Love, written by Madonna with Diplo, MoZella, Ariel Rechtstaid, Toby Gad and Nick Rowe, including background vocals by London Gospel Community Choir and Alicia Keys on the piano.

Madonna & Avicii - 2014
Madonna & Avicii – 2014

All I have to say is that since the album is supposed to be the sequel to Madonna’s 2004 studio album “American Life,” well I just hope the World Tour will be 10 times more spectacular than the critically acclaimed “MDNA World Tour” in 2012.

In that note, I will leave you guys with one of Madonna’s latest demo releases on iTunes. This is “Living for Love.” (I already like the beat)

MTV EMA - 2014
MTV EMA – 2014

The 2014 MTV EMA’S (also known as the MTV Europe Music Awards) were held at The SSE Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland, on November 9th, 2014.

Nicki Minaj hosted the award ceremony, and I have to tell you guys; I am not a fan of miss Minaj at all. But, honestly she did a pretty good job… She was funny, sexy, sounded like she knew what she was saying, so, yeah, good job to Nicki.

The stage was absolutely incredible, I mean everything from the light shows, the structure, the performances.. it was really well done.. Good job Europe, once again you kicked ass compare to the MTV’s in the United States.

I was so glad to see Kiesza performed on stage her new hit single “Hideaway;” her presence on stage was outstanding, that woman really knows how to work it out and turn up a crowd. She will soon become a sensation with her new dance moves and techno beats.
(I listened to her new album and it makes me get up and dance)

Ariana Grande opened the show performing her hit song: “Problem” and “Break Free;” while also taking the award for best female. Ozzy Ousbourne was given the Icon Award for his contribution to heavy metal for four decades.
The EMA’S featured performances by: Enrique Iglesias, Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, Kiesza, Nicki Minaj and much more.

Feeling bored?

Want to come up with a new idea, that is creative, trendy and straight to the point?

Grab a pencil, a notepad or just your Sketchpad and just start sketching your ideas in a life hand drawing. Yup, this is what I normally do as a Graphic and Character Animator and Designer.

Being creative is perhaps one of the best qualities I have in me. I love creating and coming up with new Characters that will become a part of an animated story or that will simply get published on my website; as most of you guys have already seen.

Is not always easy to clear your mind and start drawing. This must come from within yourself. When brainstorming for ideas that will be translated as a sketch or a professional illustration, you must be precise in what you want to deliver to your audience. (I should know better)

Why do I say this?

Simply because whatever you are thinking and is trying to come out on hand, has to be from your own thoughts and imagination. Imagine you deliver a successful sketch or cartoon that will later become one of the most watched Film or T.V animated shows ever. Cool? No?

Who came up with that idea? Yes, Is what you my friend.

I am referring to all the Film Animators or aspiring ones out there. The time will come. ’cause ever tying that is meant to happen in life will happen no matter what. (We have the control of success)

When I start sketching on my tablet; which let me tell you right now I use the “Wacom Bamboo”, which is a small tablet strictly for sketching purposes, nothing fancy. Just a quick and sometimes messy sketch.

That is the idea of a “Sketch.” It doe snot have to look nice, neat or clean. A sketch is a very fast drawing that shows your ideas on a pad. These ideas will be translated and the sketch will become an actual illustration once it is ready to be completed for the actual work that will be a part of.
(Do you get me?)

Squirtz - Digital Sketch Illustrated by Felipe M.
Squirtz – Digital Sketch Illustrated by Felipe M.

That is exactly what a Sketch in my world is and looks like.
Sure, I added some color to have a clear idea of how I want the cartoon to look like at the end of the day.
I know is not perfect drawing or Illustration, but once again… I am only sketching.
Aha, now you get me, right?

What happens after…

Well, depending on the intention of the Character, you can start illustrating it using a better tablet, the ultimate in graphic tablet technology , and most likely the best one on the market,  “The Wacom Cintig 21UX,” with the Cintiq you work directly on the screen, therefore it allows you to take advantage of your natural hand and eye coordination, since you are looking directly where you are working. (Now that is a piece of work)

The Cintiq works pretty much with any software that you use to create your drawing. Yes, it is compatible wit Photoshop, Flash and Illustrator. Wow, I was in love with it.

In a few words what is “HALLOWEEN”?

Is it just an excuse for children to dress up as their favorite super heroes, zombies and movie characters and get totally hyped on candy or yet another day for adults to take some time off and go out to another crazy party after walking their children out.

If you ask me, sure both statements are accurate. Who does not love Halloween Night?
I mean you get to go out and have some fun pretending to be someone you are not or someone you always wanted to be while growing up.
Even if you are a grown up, you can still enjoy the variety of parties that are held in your city.

Wouldn’t you agree?

Well, this fun night which takes place on the 31st of October every year; is the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day.

The word “Halloween” means “hallowed evening” or “holy evening” (from Christian origin) and it dates all the way back to the year 1745.

They say some of the weirdest practices, cults and rituals take place on both Halloween night and November 1st.

(also known as the day of the souls).

Whatever it is. I do believe it. I’ve seen so much throughout the years. It’s hard not to.

Obviously there is more to the story and origins of this day.

I won’t get too much into discussion about it.

Just wanted to share some thoughts with you guys.
That been said, I wish all a Happy Halloween Weekend 2014.

Black & Blue 2014 – Flyer Designed by Felipe M.

To all of you Techno, Dance, Trance and Rave lovers.. Did you guys have fun during the The Black & Blue Festival?

I am sure you did. Was not that just spellbinding. I have to say for sure the Black & Blue is only getting better every year. The DJ’S they bring in order to captivate audiences with their amazing music and outstanding visual effects are just:

“A State of the Art”

When I say “State of the Art” I mean, the organizers of the event completely transformed the venue into a futuristic environment, I know ravers felt like they were actually making “Contact” while interacting and playing with are little green friends from out of space.

(You know what I am talking about)

The 24th edition of the Black & Blue Festival took place from October 8th to 14th in Montreal.

The main event was held at The Montreal Convention Center a.k.a Palais des congrès de Montréal; on Sunday, October 12th in that huge room I previously stated which was transformed into a retro-futuristic environment.
(Wow, just Fantastic)

Tickets went from $80 dollars which rolled out for sale back in June for regular and up to $120 dollars for the VIP class of the city. LOL…

As you guys already know the Black & Blue festival is an entire weekend which is dedicated to self-expression and brings Ravers and Dancers from all over the world.

During the festival people are able to express Love, Art, Music, New Dance Techniques, Film and much more with each other. Starting from 10 p.m. and going into the early hours of Thanksgiving day on  Monday the top DJs from across the world will be spinning MAD Techno and Rave music.

The featured DJ’S list is the following:

Pascal B (Montréal),

Philip White (Montréal),

Stephan Grondin (Montréal),

Bent Collective (Danny Verde from Italy and Steven Redant from Spain),

Pagano (UK/Italy),

Tom Stephan (UK/USA) and

COYU (Spain).

As usual other parties and after parties took place in the Village of Montreal in clubs and pubs like SKY, Apollon and Cabaret Mado,

It was truly an unique event. See you guys next year for the 25th Edition!

Ever wonder how Banners, Brochures, Flyers and Billboards are created?

Yeah, eeehh?

Do you ever stop for one second and think… Who is the artist behind the mask?
Who are the people in charge of the creation of all these magnificent designs that are all over the world?
How do they come up with it?

The answer is simple: PHOTOSHOP!

So, in a nutshell; what exactly is Photoshop?

Dream Weave your Mind – Graphic Banner by Felipe M.

Any ideas?
Sounds familiar?  or maybe just foreign to you?
Are you constantly thinking how to re-invent and improve your website?
What is my next move on HTML5?
How can I make those images pop in a better way better through CSS?

Don’t worry, it is normal as a Web and Graphic Designer to have all these thoughts on making things better for the users and followers of your website.

Want to know more… Here we go.. Some history on HTML?

HTML is a markup language, a structured language that lets you identify common sections of a document such as headings, paragraphs and lists. The HTML markup elements indicate how the document sections appear in a browser.

And what about CSS?

To add presentation information to Web Pages, “WE” the Web Designers use a style langiage called Cascading Style Sheets or also knows as CSS. With CSS I am able to display information for different devices, such as a cell phone or computer screen, lay out pages and control typography, color, and many other presentation characteristics.

All these comes together in the most popular Adobe software called: “DreamWeaver”

Dream what? Yes, DreamWeaver.
With DreamWeaver all my thoughts, ideas, designs and websites come to live!
I am able to code anything I want and present it to the world online.
Obviously there is the coding thing… You must know how to code HTML and CSS in order to work with DreamWeaver.

The sky is the limit when it comes to creation and Web Design!

Dallas Buyers Club
Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

Inspired by true events, Ron Woodroof’s story of strength is told in Dallas Buyers Club, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. Golden Globe winner Matthew McConaughey portrays the real-life character.

Ron Woodroof is an electrician and rodeo cowboy. In 1985, he is well into an unexamined existence with a devil-may-care lifestyle. Suddenly, Ron is blindsided by being diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. Yet he will not, and does not, accept a death sentence.

His crash course of research reveals a lack of approved treatments and medications in the US, so Ron crosses the border into Mexico. There, he learns about alternative treatments and begins smuggling them into the US.

An outsider to the gay community, Ron finds an unlikely ally in fellow AIDS patient Rayon (Golden Globe Winner Jared Leto), a transsexual who shares Ron’s lust for life. Rayon also shares Ron’s entrepreneurial spirit: seeking to avoid government sanctions against selling non-approved medicines and supplements, they establish a “buyers club” where HIV-positive people pay monthly dues for access to the newly acquired supplies.

A must see film that will earn the Oscar for Best Actor (Matthew McConaughey) and Best Supporting Actor (Jared Leto) at this year’s Academy Awards.

Madonna, Macklemore, Mary Lambert, Ryan Lewis and Queen Latifah at the 2014 Grammy Awards, “Same Love.”

Whether it was over-the-top turns from current chart-toppers or one of the U.S. Recording Academy’s many risk-taking match-ups, the 56th annual Grammy Awards was a performance-packed extravaganza.

Here are five of the best moments of the night

1. Beyoncé kicked off the show with a steamy rendition of her tune Drunk in Love, featuring enough chair-gyrating to make people wonder and was perhaps a questionable choice to open the show.

2. It might have been one of the evening’s head-scratchers on paper, but who would have thought that rising rap star Kendrick Lamar and best rock performance-winner Imagine Dragons would deliver such a blistering duet performance?

3. Katy Perry offered up a dark and witchy, heavily choreographed rendition of Dark Horse that was apparently inspired by Stevie Nicks.

4. An unforgettable, powerful, sweet and celebratory moment as Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert performed their equality-championing hit Same Love (with contributions from Madonna, Queen Latifah and Trombone Shorty) as 33 couples, some gay and some straight, marked their marriages at the Staples Center.

Rapper Macklemore, singers: Mary Lambert and Madonna, musician Ryan Lewis and Queen Latifah perform the powerful hit-song: “Same Love” at the 56th Grammy Awards.

5. “We’re all about to get lucky,” actor Neil Patrick Harris declared as he welcomed Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder to the stage and indeed we did. At the end it was Daft Punk who took home the Grammy for Album of the Year.

“American Hustle” — Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
For the 71st annual Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association shared the love by spreading out trophies to a wide swath of winners, making for what appeared — to viewers anyway — a convivial evening of Hollywood celebration.

Host Tina Fey ended the telecast by dubbing the night “the beautiful mess hoped it would be.” But was anyone really surprised? The duo’s irreverence, easy playfulness and self-deprecation helped kick the broadcast off to a great start with careful, yet still funny skewering of Hollywood’s biggest names as well as the Globe organizers themselves.

The opening joke that seemed to get the biggest laughs from the industry crowd? Fey’s description of nominated film Gravity as the movie where “George Clooney would rather float away in space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age.”

Add just the right number of Matt Damon and Julia Louis-Dreyfus jokes over three hours, Poehler posing as Fey’s “celebrity” son and also making out with Bono, and the ladies can chalk Sunday up as another successful night as Golden Globe emcees. And they still have one more year to go.

The Globes might consider awarding Emma Thompson a prize for being one of Sunday night’s quirkiest presenters. The British actress and writer arrived onstage to present the screenwriting category barefoot, clutching her Christian Louboutin heels in one hand and swirling a full martini glass in the other.

“I just want you to know, this red,” she quipped, noting the shoes’ trademark soles, “it’s my blood.”
The Saving Mr. Banks actress then gamely dived into her martini before tossing her heels to accept the envelope listing the winning screenwriter.
Best gently soused, mildly controversial acceptance speech of the night? Likely Cate Blanchett’s admittedly vodka-fuelled, rambling thank you upon winning one of the night’s final honours: best actress in a dramatic film for Blue Jasmine. The celebrated Aussie went from referencing Judy Garland being plied with barbiturates to wondering if audiences at home could hear the music that was ushering her offstage.

Madonna described the tour as “the journey of a soul from darkness to light”. It was divided into four sections: Transgression, where guns and violence was the main theme, Prophecy, where a mix of joyful songs that bring people together are performed, Masculine/Feminine, a combination of sensuality and fashion with a few of Madonna’s classic songs performed in a French Cabaret-style, and Redemption, which Madonna labeled as “a big party and celebration”. The tour has received mostly positive reception from critics.

Raving at L'Exode, Sherbrooke 2008!!
Raving at L’Exode, Sherbrooke 2008.

A Rave . . .

(from the verb: to rave) is a large party or festival featuring performances by disc jockeys (colloquially called DJs) and occasionally live performers playing electronic music, particularly electronic dance music (EDM).

Music played at raves include house, trance, techno, drum and bass, hardcore and other forms of electronic dance music with the accompaniment of laser light shows, projected images, visual effects and smoke machines.

Rave culture originated mostly from acid house music parties in the mid-to-late 1980s in the Chicago area in the United States. After Chicago house artists began experiencing overseas success, it quickly spread to the United Kingdom, mainland Europe and the rest of the United States.

Felsite at L'EXODE Afterhours
Felsite at L’EXODE Afterhours.

Raving in itself is a syllabus free dance, whereby the movements are not predefined and the dance is performed randomly, dancers take immediate inspiration from the music and their mood. Rave dance refers to the street dance styles that evolved alongside rave culture. Such dances are street dances since they evolved alongside the underground rave movements, thus without the intervention of dance studios. Sometimes club-oriented dances would be danced to rave music, too, for example, tecktonik is sometimes danced to fast-paced electro house.
